August 29th – The boys are wide awake the moment I roll over and try to look at the clock. Why I want to know what time it is has been a habit I haven’t seemed to be able to break yet—I have no place I HAVE to be and all day to do it.
All right, all right. I know The Chiweenie Brothers are anxious for their breakfast and their morning walk about. Boys fed, coffee made and in a travel mug Burger, Fries, Charlie, and I head out for some exercise. We get in a good long walk and then I decide to break camp and head north once again. Jackson Hole and The Grand Tetons are on our radar for today.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
What a charming little town of approximately 10,000 people. It appears all the businesses are required to adhere to a dark wood, modern outdoors theme. I notice even K-Mart has to comply when I pull into their packed parking lot for a stop to get ice and a few snacks. I would loved to have gotten a photo of their trademark arch comprised of elk antlers but the streets are packed with cars and people. I get stuck in the middle of a three way intersection and blocked traffic for a bit and the throng of people in the crosswalk had to go around us. I won’t talk about how The Chiweenie Brothers reacted to that! We moved on the second we could! Red faced and embarrassed.
The Grand Tetons!!
What can I say about these mountains? They are MAGNIFICENT! As the brochure says, with no foothills to obstruct the bottom of these crags the full impact of just how huge they really are hits home. A brief thunderstorm rolls in and obscures the northern end, but soon clears enough for a few more shots. Another place checked off the Bucket List!
I miss the couple of places for the opportunity to boondock just outside Grand Teton National Park so we enter the park and hope for a place to stay for the night. The only other choice is to drive on into Yellowstone because they are back to back with no national forest in between. I am too tired to drive on. Fortunately there are empty campsites and with my senior pass it’s half price at $7.50 for the night.
Thanks for stopping by 2Dogs! Tomorrow we experience YELLOWSTONE!
